Real Madrid dropped two important points in La Liga as Atletico Madrid held them to a draw in their most recent fixture. The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the Madrid derby.
The result is a heavy blow to Real Madrid’s hopes of defending the La Liga title. Real Madrid, who are the defending La Liga champions, sit second in the points table behind El Clasico rivals Barcelona.
While the draw to Atletico Madrid sees Real Madrid reduce the gap on Barcelona to seven points, the Catalan outfit can establish a 10-point lead at the top of the La Liga table if they defeat Almeria on Sunday.
Real Madrid, who came into the Madrid derby on the back of their 5-2 thrashing of Liverpool at Anfield in a Champions League fixture, were far from their best against Atletico Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti’s men needed to score a late equalizer to salvage a draw against Atletico Madrid.
