Football News: Tite Hits Back at Kylian Mbappe’s CONMEBOL Criticism

Football news: Brazil manager Tite has responded to Kylian Mbappe’s claim that it is easier for South American teams to qualify for World Cup than European counterparts.

Mbappe made a controversial statement back in May when asked about his favorites for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Frenchman said the European teams have advantage over their South American counterparts because football there is not as developed as it is in Europe. He offered it as an explanation for why European teams have won the last four editions of the tournament.

Mbappe also said Argentina and Brazil do not have the level of competition teams in Europa face. His comments sparked controversy, and did not go down well with a section of audience.

”Maybe [Mbappe] is talking about these Nations League clashes or European friendlies, but not World Cup qualifiers,” Tite told ESPN Brazil, as quoted by Goal.

Tite added: “We don’t have, with all due respect, Azerbaijan to play. We don’t have anyone that gives you a break.

“The qualifiers here have a much higher degree of difficulty than the group stage [of European qualifying].”

Meanwhile, both Brazil and France are understandably among the favourites to win the 2022 World Cup. Brazil is the current world no.1 and have some of the best players in the world in their ranks.
