Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst has revealed his reaction to the transfer interest the Old Trafford outfit showed in him.
The Red Devils were in the transfer market looking to reinforce their attacking department following the exit of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from the club.
They were linked to a number of names and finally signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Premier League club Burnley. The Netherlands national football team attacker was with Turkish outfit Besiktas on a season-long loan from Burnley when Manchester United came calling.
Manchester United then paid compensation to Besiktas to terminate Wout Weghorst’s loan deal with the club and then signed the Dutchman from Burnley on a loan deal until the end of the season.

‘Oof’ – Wout Weghorst reveals reaction when he learned of Manchester United’s transfer interest
Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Wout Weghorst revealed his reaction when he first learned of the Red Devils’ interest in acquiring his service.
“My agent called me actually for the first time and I was together with my girl, and she was a little bit shocked because she saw my face and I was like ‘oof’. So yeah, it was a special moment and that was really nice, of course,” Wout Weghorst said.
“For me, [to play for] the biggest club is, of course, amazing, and as I’ve always said as a football player, and also as a human being, the stage I am at now, the [experience] that I have, I am ready for it. This is the right moment to take on this great challenge.”
Meanwhile, Wout Weghorst has joined Manchester United after an impressive spell with Besiktas. During his stay at the Turkish outfit, Weghorst featured in 18 games across all competitions for the club and racked up nine goals. He also registered four assists for Besiktas.
Wout Weghorst will wear the no. 27 jersey at Manchester United. Speaking to the club’s official website, he also explained why he took that jersey number. The Dutchman explained that of the available jersey numbers, he took 27 because the sum of 2 and 7 is 9, which is a striker’s number.
Meanwhile, Manchester United currently sit fourth in the Premier League points table with 38 points from 18 matches. They are within a point of second-placed Manchester City and nine points behind table-toppers Arsenal.
