Speaking to The Times ahead of Barcelona’s Europa League knockout play-off second-leg clash with Manchester United, Xavi was full of praise for Pep Guardiola.
Praising the Manchester City manager, Xavi said Pep Guardiola is a genius in every sense of the word.
“Guardiola is the best coach by far. I played under him and the difference with all the other coaches, and I include myself, is a huge chasm. Pep is a genius in every sense of the word. He’s not human, he’s different, absolutely different, it’s oversize,” Xavi told The Times.
Pep Guardiola became the Manchester City manager in 2016 and he still holds that position. Under the tutelage of Guardiola, Manchester City have so far won 11 trophies.
Xavi says he is not surprised by what Pep Guardiola has achieved in England. He said: “I’ve had him as a team-mate and as a coach, and I’m not surprised by anything he has achieved in England, because I knew he would make it.
“I would be playing and would think: we should be doing this because they are moving like this for that, and we would go down to the changing room and Pep would say exactly what I had been thinking.
“It was also fantastic how he prepared for matches. What he told you would happen, always happened. I have learnt a lot from him.”
