Barcelona icon Xavi Hernandez has supported Pep Guardiola’s treatment of Manchester City legend, Joe Hart and encouraged Ross Barkley and Jack Wilshere that their “time will come” with the England national team. The Spanish legend has been one of the best midfielders this century and has won a lot of trophies and individual honors with club and country. He won two UEFA Champions League trophies as well as three La Liga titles under current City manager, Pep Guardiola at the Camp Nou.
Now that Pep Guardiola is manager at Manchester City, Xavi has backed his former manager over his treatment of Manchester City legend, Joe Hart with the veteran keeper joining Italian team, Torino on a season long loan.
Guardiola’s choice of abandoning the 29 year old Joe Hart got a lot of criticism from the Manchester City fans but the World-Cup winner, Xavi feels the City manager has made the right decision.
The 36 year old Spaniard believes City will be in contention for titles now that Pep Guardiola has arrived at the Etihad.
Xavi spoke, “He is a good goalkeeper, but I have seen Pep be so successful, that I am not going to question him.
“Manchester City have a very strong squad, and although it will not be easy – but under Pep I think they will win the league.”
The Euro 2008 Player of the Tournament was an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s sextuple-winning Barcelona squad of 2008-09. The former Barcelona manager spoke about Xavi in September 2008, “From the first moment I saw him play, I knew he would become the brain behind Barcelona for many years to come.”
