Los Angeles forward Carlos Vela could be all set to leave the MLS to join Barcelona next year according to former Barca player and Mexican teammate Jonathan Dos Santos.
Vela reportedly has an offer from the Catalan Giants after an incredible year with the MLS side. The Mexican contributed a staggering 38 goals and 12 assists to his side’s cause from 36 appearances in 2019, helping them finish top of the Western Conference by 16 points. La Galaxy were eventually handed a 3-1 defeat in the MLS Final at the hands of the Seattle Sounders but the Mexican has arguably emerged as the United States’s biggest star managing to eclipse even Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Vela turned his back on European football when he left Real Sociedad to join new MLS franchise LAFC in 2017. His impressive form this year saw him getting linked with a loan move to the Catalan Giants in the January Transfer window with the 30 year old himself admitting that he came really close to joining the Spanish Champions. The Catalan Club however have reignited their interest in the Mexican international according to former Barcelona star Dos Santos.

Dos Santos, who came through the ranks at Barcelona as a youngster and was at the club between 2002 and 2014, was asked about his compatriot on W Radio. “It is true, he has that offer on the table [from Barcelona]. I don’t know what he’s going to do,” said Dos Santos, who has played with Vela in the Mexico national team. “He’s very happy in Los Angeles, he had a spectacular season, but Barca looking for you is a very nice opportunity. I’m happy for him. As a Mexican, I hope this possibility can be given,” he added.
Vela’s arrival would provide Ernesto Valverde with more attacking option on the right. The Mexican, who scored 73 goals in as many as 250 appearances for Real Sociedad, may not find it as easy to be as prolific as he has been in MLS so far. Having said that, the Catalan Giants aren’t exactly struggling for goals this season with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele as their attacking options, having netted 41 goals in 15 La Liga matches this season.
