Former Chelsea striker believes Manchester United should go after star winger in the transfer window

Former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland striker, Tony Cascarino feels that Manchester United should look to sign Alexis Sanchez in the transfer window.

The Chile International is yet to sign a new contract with the Gunners and is speculated to leave the Emirates, once his deal expires. The 29-year-old was close to signing for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on deadline day earlier this year, but the deal fell through after Arsenal failed to land a replacement. Manchester City are still favourites to sign Sanchez as the Chilean wants a reunion with his former manager. Sanchez arrived from Barcelona in 2014 for a fee of £31.7 million.

Apart from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are looking for the services of the winger, and the former Republic of Ireland International thinks that Jose Mourinho’s side should enter the race as well.

Cascarino’s thoughts on Sanchez’s destination

Cascarino stated in a column for The Times that Manchester City is probably not the right place for Sanchez due to their immense squad depth and believes Manchester United need the signing more in order to challenge their cruising rivals. He said:

“Lingard’s success is symbolic of why United will finish second, or even third, and Manchester City will cruise to the title.”

“Look at Sergio Agüero – he would walk into United’s team and yet he often finds himself on the bench under Pep Guardiola… I think United should try to snatch Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. ‘They managed it with Robin van Persie, and Mourinho would be able to offer him assured starts, whereas he might face more competition at City.”

Manchester United have already targetted Sanchez’s teammate Mesut Ozil to bolster their attack.

Author’s Take:

Cascarino’s thoughts make sense considering the fact that Manchester City have their attack in the lineup set, whereas Manchester United have been shuffling their attack on a constant basis as a result of injuries and poor form. It is certain that Sanchez would be a huge asset for the club he chooses to sign.
