Ex-Chelsea player Tony Cascarino has suggested that Luke Shaw should leave Manchester United.
Cascarino, who now works as a football pundit for talkSPORT, believes that Shaw needs to leave Manchester United in order to prove himself as one the best left-backs in the Premier League.
Shaw made his first league start of the season in the win against Bournemouth last week and Jose Mourinho had all good to say about the player after the match, even though the player was left on the bench in the subsequent 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.
Luke Shaw has found himself frustrated for game time
However, it is said that the player will start on Wednesday when United takes on Bristol City in the Carabao Cup semi-final. Mourinho is said to be looking forward to shuffle his squad ahead of the festive period.
Cascarino wrote in the Times: “Luke Shaw remained on the bench yesterday and watched a winger – Ashley Young – and then a center back – Marcos Rojo – play in his position. He needs to leave Manchester United and restore his reputation as a top-flight left back.”
“He needs to leave Manchester United and restore his reputation as a top-flight left back.Shaw will regret staying at United.”
Speaking after Shaw’s performance against Bournemouth, Mourinho said: “I’m not saying first or second choice, he’s an option. His history is an incredible injury and more surgery at the end of last season.
He needs competitive matches, we gave him that and he had some cramps so we had to change him. The standing ovation for him I liked, it helps the player.”
The left-back has been linked with a move to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window. According to Express, Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is interested in the player to St James’ Park. The Mirror claim that the United boss Jose Mourinho will use the player in a deal to bring Danny Rose to Old Trafford.
I think the player really needs to leave Old Trafford, in order to prove himself as one of the best left-backs in the league. The fans were delighted with the player’s performance in United’s victory over Bournemouth on Wednesday. It’s been a tough spell for the player since he suffered a double leg fracture two seasons ago.
But still, after his performance in the victory over Bournemouth, I can say that the player is slowly getting back to his best for the club. What the youngster needs at the moment is the ‘regular game time.’ Shaw needs the opportunities to prove himself.
He would be a very good signing for the Magpies. The left-back has also worked with Pochettino during his time at Southampton, and the Spurs boss would be able to get the best out of the England international. However, his next destination is unknown.
