Manchester City took their summer spending past £150 million this Tuesday morning as they completed the signing of England international John Stones from Everton for a reported fee of £47.5 million. The England defender has penned a six year contract with Manchester City that will keep him at the Etihad till June 2022. Stones now becomes City’s seventh important signing of the summer after Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Marlos Moreno.

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign for City and now the deal’s done I’m looking forward to the next stage in my career,” Stones said.

“I’ve obviously seen what’s going on here at the Etihad, it’s an ambitious Club with a great manager so I can’t wait to get stuck in and help achieve the goals.”

“I know it will be tough getting a place in this team but I’m determined to become the best player I can be and help us to success.”

“I had a wonderful time with Everton and wish them and their fans all the best but now I’ll give my all for Manchester City.”

City boss Guardiola also has high hopes for the England center back.

“We want to help John show his quality with us and improve on what he has already achieved,” he said

“I like the way he plays the game and I’m looking forward to welcoming him into the squad.”

Stones might be brought up to action sooner rather than later because with Vincent Kompany out injured, the former Everton defender is the likely option to partner with Nicolas Otamendi in the center of City’s defense and he could also be making his against Sunderland before facing Steaua in the Champions League later on.
