Former Indian cricketer points out the reason for MS Dhoni’s poor form in ODIs

MS Dhoni’s poor performance with the willow is no longer concealed to anyone and different people have their own versions to share about the individual.

Team India showed their unmatched dominance with the bat in the recently concluded test series against the Windies. The middle order hardly needed to be tested because the top order were too good to let the former happen. The top order used to gather enough runs to properly oil the run machine for which the failure of the lower and middle order also used to be shrouded perfectly. As a result the hosts whitewashed the series 2-0.

Similar top order dominance was also seen in the first two ODIs where unfortunately the men in blue could not register a win in the second after registering one in the first. The middle order came into the limelight for the very first time in the third ODI where the flaws committed couldn’t be overlooked. There were a lot of expectations from the former skipper, MS Dhoni but he failed to live up to them as usual.

This has aggravated the problems for the cricketer. His repeated failures of delivery with the willow has been hidden to none and has been recurring ever since the beginning of this calendar year. He has yet not been able to strike a half century in 2018 and his poor performance in the current series against the Windies is evident from the scores of 20 and 7 in the two ODIs.

The cricketing world starting from the legends to the fans have given their individual comments about the reasons for such a poor show and also about what steps he should take as a result. Fingers were also raised at the selection of the playing eleven and the selection committee had to face several criticisms as well. Former Indian cricketer and former chief selector, Dilip Vengsarkar also expressed unhappiness over the team’s combination as well as Dhoni’s performance.

He lashed out at the former skipper’s lack of interest in playing ample domestic crickets that would help him enhance his batting skills. It’s because of this practice that Dhoni can’t deliver as he used to despite being absolutely fit. Dilip also speculated that Dhoni would feature for his home side, Jharkhand in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare trophy but shockingly he didn’t. Dilip further added that it’s difficult for any cricketer to perform his natural game in the international level without playing sufficient amount of crickets in the domestic circuit and Dhoni too is not an exception.

“He is fit but his form is suspect. That is because he doesn’t play all the formats and doesn’t play domestic cricket as well. It is tough to straightaway come and play international cricket.”
