Former Real Madrid player gives his views on Neymar’s situation

With rumours regarding the future of Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar refusing to die down, former Real Madrid winger Luis Figo has claimed that the French champions will not be able to keep hold of him if he doesn’t want to stay

The Brazilian became the most expensive player of all time when he moved from Barcelona to the French capital in the summer of 2017. But, the 26-year-old has been perpetually linked with a move away despite moving for such a huge sum, and Figo shared his thoughts on any potential move as well as PSG’s chances with Neymar in their ranks.

“Under normal circumstances, I’d say he could become the best in the world because he is an awesome player,” Figo told“But that also depends on the trophies that he can win with his club, such as the Champions League. If we are only talking about his individual quality, he is a wonderful player but I don’t know if he will stay at PSG or not. If a player doesn’t want to stay at a team, I don’t think that any club can keep them against their will but I don’t know what will happen.”

One of the clubs that have been linked with a move for his signature are Real Madrid, but the Portuguese great did not give much importance to such reports. “PSG are obviously a very economically strong club, they are like a state, but in terms of the player market we know that anything is possible in football,” he explained.“Could Neymar go to Real Madrid? It depends on the parties involved and what the market allows.”

The fact that Neymar has been perennially linked with a move away from a club he wanted and chose to join, despite not even completing one and half years, does not read well for either PSG or Neymar. One can only hope the two parties resolve any issues soon, or that they amicably part ways, for the in-the-making saga will benefit no one.
