Tottenham Hotspur‘s former youngster Armando Broja has revealed the reason behind his past decision of leaving Spurs for rival Chelsea.

He told that the London Blues approached him after watching him netting nine goals in a 12-0 win during his academy days in north London.

He is currently hoping for more first-team action under the new Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

The 21-year-old spent his last season at Southampton on loan and impressed the Blues to keep him. The young striker is highly thought of at Stamford Bridge.

Broja joined Chelsea in 2009 after spending two years at Tottenham Hotspur’s academy. But the player has recently revealed that he was able to get his big move by impressing a scout.
At The Player’s Tribune, Broja spoke: “I remember going to a tournament. The Tottenham scout actually came to watch another boy. I happened to obviously play well that tournament and I got top goalscorer and I got the best player at the tournament so they approached my mum and dad before I even knew about it.”

He also talked about his lack of knowledge about the clubs, as he told: “So, when I came back my mum and dad said, ‘Tottenham came over to us and I was thinking, ‘who’s Tottenham?’ Because I was quite young, I didn’t really know anything apart from my Sunday league team. So in my head, it was just Burnham Juniors – that’s all I knew!”

After getting to know about Spurs, Broja joined Tottenham Hotspur and spent the next two years playing in the academy.

But the young player was a massive fan of Chelsea and ended up joining them in the end. After visiting Stamford Bridge with his mother’s cousin, the Albania international became a big admirer of “big team” Chelsea.

He also added: “In my head when I was at Tottenham, I supported them [Chelsea], but I always wanted to beat them because I wanted to show the Chelsea staff and everyone there that I want to join Chelsea.”

He talked about the special day when the Chelsea scout was impressed by him. Broja begged his Tottenham Hotspur manager to come on from the bench, and he ended up getting one assist and one goal by making the scoresheet 2-2.

Then he spoke about the latter event: “And then we moved over to the other side of the pitch and played the other team. We won 12-0 I think, and I scored nine. Straight after that, the two Chelsea guys came over and said ‘wow, we want you. When they said that I didn’t think of anything else, I just wanted to join Chelsea.”

In the end, Broja ended up joining Chelsea’s end of U9s and the start of U10s. One match changed his fate and helped him to join his dream club.
