Formula 1 News: Just like at Renault, Daniel Ricciardo placed a podium bet with McLaren’s Zak Brown upon joining. The bet the Australian race driver won in Monza after winning the Italian Grand Prix.
To serve his obligation, Brown surprised Ricciardo last week by revealing that the latter would be doing a demonstration drive in the car of his “hero” at the Circuit of the Americas.
Ricciardo will be driving Dale Earnhardt Sr’s 1984 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The car is among the personal car collection of Brown. And a ride of it was on the line for the bet, which Brown lost.
Ricciardo is a huge NASCAR fan, and Earnhardt was his hero. So much that his personal F1 car number 3 is inspired by him. And personally, it seems to be a big deal for the 32-year-old McLaren driver after seeing his reaction to the announcement.
Formula 1 news: “Dream come true” for honey badger
With F1 travelling to the United States this week, Brown sees it as the appropriate opportunity to serve the bet. Considering NASCAR is enormous in the United States, and F1 is trying to penetrate the market, McLaren seems to be a great juxtaposition.
Nevertheless, Ricciardo is delighted with this opportunity and claims it to be a dream come true. The 32-year-old race driver talks about the excitement he is holding ahead of driving the legendary car this weekend.
“To top off the weekend, I’ll be getting behind the wheel of Dale Earnhardt Sr’s 1984 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo,” said Ricciardo.
“He’s a big hero of mine, so to be able to drive one of his cars is going to be a surreal moment and a bit of a dream come true. A big thanks to Zak for keeping his end of the deal and making this happen. I can’t wait!”
Formula 1 News: Daniel Ricciardo excited to be in COTA
Last year, courtesy to unending rise to the COVID-19 cases in the United States, the Grand Prix was cancelled. Now, under a more controlled environment, the event is set to make a comeback after a year-long hiatus.
Ricciardo personally loves to visit the Circuit of the Americas. And, talking about its absence from the 2020 calendar, Ricciardo wants to make up for the missed time by F1 in America.
“I’m excited to be in the US after a one-year hiatus,” Ricciardo explained. “The city of Austin is a special place known for its brisket, BBQ and all that good stuff. Not to mention that COTA is arguably one of the best tracks we get to race on.”
“We need to make up for missing out on being there last year, so we’ll be working hard for a good result,” he said. Furthermore, Ricciardo talks about how his team is aiming to improve from their recent debacle in Turkey. McLaren’s would seek to fight to recover the losses from last Grand Prix weekend.
