Formula 1 news: Rooting (and driving obviously) for Team Germany are the Aston Martin F1 Team & Haas F1 Team drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher at the upcoming 2022 edition of Race of Champions.
Now, for those who don’t know what I am saying, ROC, or Race of Champions, is a certain sporting event that has the element of surprise, close competition, entertainment, and a motorsport family get-together each year.
The 2022 edition of the Race of Champions will be held in Sweden from 5th February to 6th February. On the fifth, the World’s Fastest Nation will be crowned (ROC Nations Cup). And on the sixth, the “Champion of Champions” will be crowned.
The upcoming ROC will sport vehicles powered by electric and 100% bio-fuel (fossil-free) engines. Sebastian is considered quite successful in ROC. He has won the Nations Cup with the great Michael Schumacher a total of six times, from 2007-2012. Vettel has also been named the “Champion of Champions” in 2015.
Formula 1 news: What do Team Germany have to say about the 2022 ROC “Snow + Ice” WORLD FINAL in Pite Havsbad, Sweden?
“I’m really looking forward to being back competing in the Race Of Champions again and to represent Germany together with Mick,” says Seb. “At ROC Mexico, we came 2nd in the ROC Nations Cup, so our aim is to do one better in Sweden.
“The competition will be very strong especially from the Nordic drivers who have a lot more experience than us driving on snow and ice.”
Worth mentioning that, unlike previous times, the 2022 version will be run on the unpredictable surface of a frozen ocean, making it the fastest and widest course in ROC’s 30-year history.
Vettel’s partner, Mick Schumacher, with whom he has already contested the Nations Cup in 2019, says, “Representing Germany together with Sebastian will for sure be big fun, and obviously we aim to win a trophy again.
“We have to continue the success of Team Germany, and fight for victory. The other teams, especially the Nordic ones, have more ice-driving experience. We will try to make up for that with our motivation over the days of the event.”
Formula 1 news: Provisional list of ROC Sweden 2022
It is not only Sebastian and Mick from the F1 fraternity that will be racing in ROC next year. Current Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas and 1998/99 World Champion Mika Hakkinen too, would be racing for Team Finland.
Other prominent names from the motorsport world include Jimmie Johnson (7-time Nascar Champion); Mattias Ekstrom (3x ROC Champion, 2x DTM & World Rallycross Champion); Sebastian Loeb (3x ROC Champion, 9x WRC Champion); Tom Kristensen (9x LeMans 24H Champion); Johan Kristoffersson (3x World Rallycross Champion); Travis Pastrana (6x American Rally Champion). The father-son duo of Petter and Oliver Solberg from the world of Rallying complete the provisional entry list of ROC Sweden 2022.
