Frank Lampard and Petr Cech made a secret trip to Germany to sign Timo Werner
Frank Lampard’s interest in Werner isn’t something that is newfound. Chelsea and Lampard were both hugely impressed by the player’s performances before the game was paused.
Werner has the potential to become a legend at Stamford Bridge. The player has a deadly reputation in front of the goal. He can replicate what Drogba did for the club.
Before the lockdown began, Frank Lampard along with Petr Cech went to Germany to meet Werner. Petr Cech is the club’s Technical Director. He is also fluent in German which helped ineffective translation.
According to the Daily Mail, Lampard and Cech paid a visit to Werner, his agent and his family. His agent and his father aren’t fluent in English. that’s where Cech came in.
They laid out Chelsea’s plans with Werner, his role in the club, and the club’s ambition heading into the future. Werner agent gave the following statement.
“We had a few long conversations about his approach, the playing style, the club, about me personally. And later on we texted quite a lot. While everyone thought Liverpool were the favorites it looks like Chelsea was making their moves in silence.
Both Werner and his father were very impressed by the efforts taken by Chelsea’s representatives. That just might be the thing that swings the deal in their favor.
The Blues have submitted their offer to Leipzig along with a personal contract for Werner.
Werner has 31 goals and 12 assists for Leipzig in all competitions. Chelsea fans are brimming with excitement that such a prolific player will be joining their club.
According to Football London, Chelsea has presented its offer to Leipzig. They will meet Werner’s release clause at around $55 million. They have also offered an $11.4 million yearly contract for 5 years to Werner. A pretty lucrative deal.
The player will see a salary of $200,000 per week. Chelsea has made it clear that Werner is their main priority. There isn’t anything more the club can do. But still, the move is not official yet.
Leipzig are yet to officially agree to Chelsea’s offer. Even after that, it’s up to Werner to say yes to the move. The player has admiration for what Jurgen Klopp has achieved at Liverpool. He believes that Klopp is a great manager and he would fit perfectly at Liverpool.
However, Liverpool has admitted a few days ago that the club will not be matching Werner’s release clause. But this was before Chelsea’s move for him. Liverpool could still change their mind and match Chelsea’s offer. Werner’s clause expires on June 15 and there has been no news after the offer was made.
But Chelsea has done all they could. If there are no other avenues there is no reason for Werner to decline a move. After signing Pulisic and Ziyech, Werner addition can take the Blues to a different level.
He could be the foundation of the attacking team that Frank Lampard is trying to build. Although if there is no news in the next few days, the club could face disappointment in their pursuit of the player.
