FC Barcelona have signed Ajax Midfield sensation Frenkie De Jong at the start of the season for whooping £67.5 million. The 22 year old is currently one of the most promising young midfielder in the world. He has been instrumental in the fantastic season that Ajax played last season. The skills and immense performances of the player attracted Barcelona to go for him.
De Jong was fantastic throughout the last season both domestically and in Europe earning him the the Eredivisie Player of the Season award and a spot in the Champions League Squad of the Season. He has also found his place among the three nominees selected for the Champions League Best midfielder of the season.
He was also the given the award for the Dutch Football Talent of the Year 2018-19. He was also instrumental for Netherlands qualifying for the UEFA Nations League Finals held this year, where his side ultimately lost to Portugal.
He has already made his mark in the pre season matches that Bracelona played. He showed his immense composure on the ball while his possession, his off the ball movement, his passing and vision in the minutes he played against Chelsea, Kobe and Napoli.
A video has got viral in social media which clearly shows Frenkie was frustrated when he did not get the ball back from his team mates when he passed it to them. The video shows De Jong playing a pass and making an off the ball movement to create a Triangle to get the ball and move forward only to see his team mate passing the ball back and opting for a safer option.

It is still early days, as his new Barcelona team mates have still not jelled up with him, but it will surely change, when they play with each other more as the season progresses and of course- when Leo Messi will be back !
Frenkie De Jong has still not got the opportunity to play alongside the Argentine Superstar, after he was given an extended break following his campaign with the Argentina National Team in this year’s Copa America. De Jong was set to get the opportunity in Barcelona’s US Tour but Messi injured his calf muscle in his first training season with FC Barcelona. He is sure to light up a new partnership with La Pulga.
“I’m happy to be able to play with Messi, who I have always followed,” De Jong said after his unveiling this summer. “Now my idol will be my teammate.”
