Manchester United’s poor performance on the attacking front could be overcome by signing the French international who is one of the world’s best playmakers.
English Premier League outfit Manchester United are willing to French superstar Antoine Griezmann, who recently revealed he will be leaving Atletico Madrid in the summer, for a staggering amount, a report in the Express claims.
Manchester United ended their season on a terrible note and failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. After sacking Jose Mourinho, the team had started well under Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer but could not continue the line after the Norwegian was appointed permanently.
Although Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur dropped crucial points, United failed to capitalise on it. The team conceded defeats in the Premier League even against lower-ranked sides. A revamping of the squad is much needed at Old Trafford and United are expected to spend heavily this summer.
Meanwhile, reports claim that Manchester United are willing to meet Antoine Griezmann’s release clause at Atletico Madrid. It is set at £107million and United will have to pay the fee if they are to sign the French player.
He is also linked with a move to FC Barcelona and it remains to be seen where he will end up. Will he continue in Spain playing for FC Barcelona or will he go for Manchester United, who are desperately looking for quality additions?
The earlier mentioned report also claims that United would give Griezmann the No.7 shirt, currently worn by Alexis Sanchez.
The 28-year-old French International has been one of the top performers for Atletico Madrid. Ever since joining the Madrid outfit in 2014, Griezmann has played more than 200 games and scored 133 goals.
He also played a crucial role for France and helped them win the FIFA World Cup in 2018. The player, for his brilliant performance throughout the tournament, was awarded the Bronze Ball for the third best player.
Griezmann has already made it clear he would be leaving the club in the upcoming transfer window. FC Barcelona seemed to be his destination but with Manchester United reportedly also interested, it will be interesting to see where he heads next.
