Liverpool Legend Gerrard Calls It Quits

Steven Gerrard finally announced his exit from professional football after dedicating a significant part of his life to this glorious sport. The former Liverpool player on Thursday announced his final retirement following a month-long exit from his last professional football club, LA Galaxy.

In an interview, Gerrard said “Following recent media speculation surrounding my future I can confirm my retirement from playing professional football.”

This England midfielder started off his career 19 years before and made debut for Liverpool in a match against Blackburn Rovers. Since that day onward this great footballer didn’t look back and went on to win the glorious Champions League with the Reds

This football player is also the fourth-highest capped player to play for England representing them 114 times. He also led England football team as a captain in three of the six major tournaments he played.

“I have had an incredible career and am thankful for each and every moment of my time at Liverpool, England and LA Galaxy.

“I fulfilled my childhood dream by pulling on the famous red shirt of Liverpool.”

This 36-year-old player did win almost every title including the FA Cup, the League Cup, UEFA Super cup, however, couldn’t win the glorious Premier League title. Liverpool was almost set to win the title back in 2013-14 season. However, slip past him proved to be a crucial factor in Chelsea winning the match 2-0 while Manchester City winning the title with 2 points lead from Liverpool.

This midfielder has played more than 700 matches for Liverpool and has scored 185 goals for them.

Gerrard continuing with his talk says : “I feel lucky to have experienced so many wonderful highlights over the course of my career. I am proud to have played over 700 games for Liverpool, many of which as captain, and to have played my part in helping the club to bring major honours back to Anfield, none more so than that famous night in Istanbul.

This player left Liverpool after 2014-15 season and moved to LA Galaxy. However, after the end of last season and in the first half of this month Steven announced his decision of leaving LA Galaxy and retiring from football.

I would like to say a special thank you to Steve Heighway, Dave Shannon and Hugh McAuley for believing in me when I was making my way at Liverpool and for giving me the platform to go on and fulfil my dreams.

I was lucky to play alongside some great players and under some fantastic managers during my time at Anfield and would like to thank each and every one of them, as well as all of the backroom staff at the club throughout my time there for the fantastic support they showed me,” he added.

“I would like to thank Struan Marshall, my agent throughout my career, and the team at Wasserman for all of their support over the past 18 years.

“Away from football, I feel lucky to have had such a close group of friends that I have always been able to count and rely on throughout the course of my career. Thank you to all of you.

There was news of this player joining Celtic or Newcastle as a player, however with this decision nothing hold true, at least for now.
