Glenn Maxwell pulls out from the Hundred cricket tournament

Covid -19 crisis has hampered almost all activities in the world, you can imagine of. Cricket is no such exception either. We saw IPL-2021, and many more crucial events postponed. However, with decreasing cases and increased precautionary measures, we are seeing them resume back again.

The Hundred is another franchise based cricket tournament, similar to IPL. It is going to feature as many as 08 men as well as women teams for the very first time in history. This tournament planned much earlier, also received the wrath of the pandemic.

Young, fresh talents will adorn the contest from cities across England and Wales. As the name suggests, the contest will have 100 balls per innings. Each over will comprise 10 balls. The side scoring the maximum runs will win the battle.

While this innovative approach, fans were expecting a lot of familiar faces. However, the England and Wales cricket board has already received a few setbacks. Major names have withdrawn their names and to add to their woes, another Aussie legend has joined the list too.

Well, the Aussie all-rounder is none other than the destructive batsman, Glenn Maxwell. Several reasons can attribute to this decision by the batsman. The travel restrictions and bubble fatigue being the most important.

Another prime reason can be the fact that 02 mega events, IPL and the ICC T20 world cup is also around the corner later this year. He will definitely be utilising this time to focus on his form and prepare for them nicely.

The shocking news came from Australian legendary spinner, Shane Warne. Warne said on Fox Cricket’s Road To The Ashes podcast, “Unfortunately, Glenn Maxwell has pulled out of The Hundred. We were really excited to get him in the draft. We know he’s a match-winner, and we were excited to have him. We’ve now replaced him with Josh Inglis from Western Australia, so we are lucky to have him.”

Another Australian cricketer, Josh Inglis will be replacing Maxwell in the contest. He is yet to make his debut for the national team but his first class records speak volumes of him.

The tournament will start from 21st July and will end on 21st August, 2021. It is going to be succeeded by IPL and ICC T20 World cup. July will give an impetus to the massive cricketing action in store and the fans cannot be less excited.
