The Argentine superstar would cause an ‘extraordinary revolution’ for football in the United States if he were to join MLS, according to Gonzalo Higuain. Lionel Messi is widely considered as one of the greatest footballers ever.
The Argentine, alongside a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, dominated the footballing world for more than a decade. They still continue to play at the highest level, with Messi currently on PSG’s roster.
Messi is still among the best footballers in the world. The 35-year-old has looked back to his best at PSG this season after an underwhelming 21/22 campaign at the French outfit. Although a switch to MLS does not look imminent, he has been linked with a move to the Major League Soccer before he hangs up his boot.

Lionel Messi joining MLS would cause an extraordinary revolution, says Higuain

Messi’s former Argentina teammate Gonzalo Higuain believes the PSG star would cause a ‘revolution’ for football in the USA if he were to sign for a team in the MLS.
“He’s already trained here [in Miami], he knows the place. Leo is like Maradona, he can’t live anywhere. It’s his decision, but if he comes here it will cause an extraordinary revolution, no question,” Higuain said.
Higuain, who has played alongside Messi at the Argentina national team, is currently an Inter Miami player. He has been playing for Inter Miami since signing for the side in September 2020.
Higuain has so far featured in 66 matches for Inter Miami and has scored 26 goals for the side. Inter Miami is co-owned by footballing icon David Beckham.
Higuain is not the only high-profile player currently plying his trade in the MLS. Blaise Matuidi is Higuain’s teammate at Inter Miami, while former Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini plays for Los Angeles FC. Gareth Bale also plays for Los Angeles FC.
Meanwhile, Messi has had a great start to the 22/23 season with PSG. The Argentine has so far featured in 11 games across all competitions for PSG this season.
Messi has already scored six goals for the French side this season. Four of those came in the Ligue 1, while he also scored a goal each in the Trophee des Champions final and Champions League.
Messi has also registered an impressive tally of eight assists so far this season. He made seven of those assists in the French top-flight and the other in the Champions League.
