Champions Manchester City will aim to cut Liverpool’s lead back to four points as they resume their title chase by hosting Wolves on Monday.
After handing Liverpool it’s first defeat of the season it seems the title race is on. Liverpool earlier had a seven-point lead but now it’s a four-point lead. With 16 goals scored in two games, it seems City are providing a fresh challenge to Klopp’s men. With no replacement of Fernandinho and left back position it seemed Guardiola may look to sign players in that department in January. Guardiola reveals Man City’s plan for the January transfer window.
Pep Guardiola’s men pulled themselves firmly back into the race for top spot in the Premier League with a thrilling victory over the Reds earlier this month. But the Merseysiders pushed their advantage out to seven points with a 1-0 victory at Brighton on Saturday. The onus is now on City to maintain their pursuit.
Guardiola has been asked numerous times if City might try to add to the squad during this month’s transfer window. However, he remains adamant that will not happen. He said, “ We have done it but normally when we want to buy a player it’s for the next four, six years. And normally this kind of situations don’t happen in this transfer window.” Guardiola said that the transfer window is perfect to sign on players on loan.
Guardiola added, “For loan players maybe it can happen, for a short time. but I don’t think the big clubs buy players for just six months. And important players are not sold in that period. If you have no injuries and you are satisfied. As in our case, with the squad we have. We decided going well, going bad, (we stick) with the same players we started the season.”
It seems City and Guardiola have tried to sign a player but failed to do so. The likes of De Jong and Ndombele are constantly linked with City. With FFP rules violation on the head, it seems City can’t spend big. Guardiola will be playing more matches than Klopp in next six 6 weeks. If Guardiola wants to win the Premier League, a replacement of Fernandinho is a must. City have struggled in midfield in the absence of the Brazilian.
