Haaland may leave Dortmund as Man United and Man City keen on a young prospect

Amid tough competition in the modern football era, young football players are coming through their ranks to reach the highest level. Erling Haaland definitely needs no introduction as he is one of the most sought after players in the world. The bright young prospect is going places at Borussia Dortmund.

The young star hogged the limelight after winning the Golden Boy award. After being nominated in the top 10 list of youngsters, Haaland deservedly won the award after netting a staggering 44 goals across all competitions during the 2019/20 season.

The youngster scored 28 goals for Salzburg in the first half of the Bundesliga season before turning up for Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old scored 16 goals in 18 games for Dortmund.

Haaland netted another 10 goals to his tally in 8 appearances for Dortmund this season. The young star is only behind Robert Lewandoski in terms of scoring charts. Bayern Munich forward scored 17 goals this season.

While things were moving smoothly, Haaland picked up an injury. The 20-year-old tore his hamstring which ruled him out of the competition until at least January.

Manchester clubs are interested on Haaland

Meanwhile, both Man United and Man City are observing Erling Haaland closely and are also interested in him. Germany legend Matthaus reckons that Haaland’s exit is not far away from happening.

Speaking to Bundesliga site, the former German international reckons that Haaland will take the next step in his career. “This positivity that he radiates, radiates on the team which is why I think that someday, Haaland will not be playing at Dortmund anymore and will make the next step.

He is already ready and we are proud to have him in the Bundesliga,” Matthaus said. He also added that Borussia Dortmund should be gifted to have a player like him. “Dortmund need to be pleased to have gotten him because he is a striker that fits to a club with such emotions,” he said.

Germany legend heaps praise on Dortmund sensation

Haaland is scoring goals with such ease in Bundesliga. Even at the age of 20, he is weaving through the opposition’s defense to score goals. According to the German legend, Haaland is someone who brings positive vibes to the team.

“At the age of 20, he is a machine. He is a flying striker and brings good vibes in the team while also scoring goals. He is irreplaceable.” The star striker’s impressive run of form is good for Dortmund.

His contract comes to a close in 2024 and is pretty much happy here at the club. As things stand, he is linked with a string of big clubs in Europe. Needless to say, Haaland is happy at Dortmund.

He didn’t express his interest in moving to any other club. “Have I been close to Juventus? That’s what they say, but I’ve never said it,” said the 20-year-old in quotes reported by Tuttosport.
