The former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh thinks Hardik Pandya should be chosen as the leader of the Indian team. Furthermore, the Turbanator views Ashish Nehra as a quality inclusion in the coaching staff.
Pandya has been a prolific all-rounder for the Indian team since his debut in 2016. To date, the Men in Blue has not found any player to match his consistency, especially in the white-ball format.
In the crunch game against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2022, he hit 40 and took three wickets. The crucial semi-final game witnessed him scoring 63 off 33, which helped India to post a competitive target of 168.
With India facing a defeat in one-way traffic by England in the semi-finals, concerns have popped up to change the leadership. The experienced Rohit Sharma is likely to pass the baton to Pandya.
In the Indian Premier League 2022, Pandya led the Gujarat Titans to a title victory. Under his maiden stint as a captain, India won the T20I series against Ireland.
Harbhajan Singh suggests the inclusion of Ashish Nehra in the Indian coaching staff
Harbhajan thinks it’s critical for the BCCI to include the players in the coaching staff, who have just retired from the T20Is. He thinks Nehra has a good cricketing brain, which was evident with the Titans’ win with him as a head coach.
In this regard, the 42-year-old reckoned that if the apex board doesn’t want to remove Rahul Dravid, Nehra can at least be included in the coaching staff.
“Someone like Ashish Nehra who has got a great cricketing brain. Look what he has done there at Gujarat Titans.
“For captaincy, Hardik Pandya is my choice. There is no better choice. He is the best player in the team and you need more people like him in the team.”
Under the leadership of Pandya, India will clash with New Zealand in the T20I series starting November 18.
