Harry Kane vs Erling Haaland Took a New Turn With Alan Shearer vs Pep Guardiola Comments

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hit back at Alan Shearer after claiming that Harry Kane could score as many goals as Erling Haaland.

Man City signed Haaland this summer from the Bundesliga side Borrusia Dortmund after failing to secure Kane’s signature last summer.

As per reports from The Guardian, City was ready to offer €150 million for the England captain, but Tottenham Hotspur was not ready to listen to any offer.

After arriving at Manchester, Erling Haaland has destroyed English Premier League with his fiery form.

Last year Premier League champion triggered Erling Haaland’s £51 million release clause to land him in England. Despite struggling in Premier League football, the Norway international has bagged 20 goals in just 13 games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side. He is also the top scorer in the league with 15 goals.

Though Haaland is a massive success for City, it is believed Guardiola preferred Harry Kane over him. The English striker was desperate to leave his childhood club. But Daniel Levy forced him to stay.

After Antonio Conte’s arrival, the situation changed. Kane right now is the second top scorer with Ivan Toney with 8 goals under his name. Even though Haaland is leading the Premier League Golden Boot race, Kane has other thoughts.

He spoke: “Everyone’s talking about Haaland because he’s had an incredible start to the season, so rightly so. As you know me, I don’t focus on too many other people, I focus on myself and what I can do.”

But recently, Premier League’s all-time top scorer Alan Shearer made a huge claim while writing for The Athletic. The former Newcastle man spoke: “If Harry was in this City team, he would be scoring as many goals as Erling has.”

In his opinion, the City team is a “dreamland” for any striker. He wrote that any striker can score 40 goals and Erling Haaland can score more.

But Guardiola has given a cold reply when a journalist asked about his thoughts on Shearer’s comments on Friday afternoon.

The manager said: “I don’t know. I don’t have the ability to know what would happen if Harry Kane was here. Alan was a striker, maybe he knows better than me.”

But he took a dig at the former England superstar. He spoke about Haaland’s form: “This type of players always scores goals in their career”.

Harry Kane’s Tottenham contract has two years remaining. The Lilywhites are hoping to tie him down to a new contract to make him stay beyond 2024.
