Team India’s confidence levels hit the stratospheric levels ever since 34-year-old senior cricketer Rohit Sharma took charge as the full-time captain of the Indian cricket team.
In the wake of embarrassing defeats at the hands of South Africa in the Test and ODI series, India breathed new life under a new captain Rohit Sharma in the white-ball series against West Indies.
The fact that India have won nine games on the trot under Rohit’s captaincy goes to show their progress as a team heading into the World Cup. Rohit has a 100% captaincy record as full-time captain with 9 wins in 9 games.
More importantly, he made use of the players pretty well in the recently-concluded white-ball series. When Deepak Chahar sustained a hamstring injury, Venkatesh Iyer came to fill his shoes as the sixth bowling option.
Team India have got all their bases covered, be it batting, bowling. Meanwhile, among the bowlers, Harshal Patel has definitely been the standout performer for Team India in the T20I series.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Ajay Jadeja reserved the highest respect for fast bowler Harshal Patel for the way he approached the situations in the T20I series against West Indies.
Ajay Jadeja showers praise on Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel played all three games of the T20I series at Eden Gardens. He played a substantial role in taking key wickets. Overall, he ended up taking five wickets to his name in Kolkata.
Ajay Jadeja was pleased with Harshal Patel’s bowling. “The more you play Harshal, people will get used to something. They keep watching you and the pattern of your bowling – when do you bowl slower ones and yorkers,” he added.
Ajay Jadeja further added that Harshal Patel can be productive in Australian pitches. “If you expose him more, he might be less effective. But Australia grounds are huge, where he would be very useful,” he added.
Harshal Patel has proved more than enough in a short span of time. Jadeja also highlighted that Harshal Patel is one name that can be added alongside Bumrawhi while naming the team. “At this moment, if the Indian team had to be picked, you’ll probably write his name alongside Bumrah,” Jadeja said.
Moreover, Rohit Sharma used Harshal Patel quite effectively in the series. It helped India bring out the improved outcome from time to time in the game. “From the time he has come into the Indian team, he has done everything right,” he added.
Last but not least, Ajay Jadeja added that Harshal Patel is certainly an X-factor for the upcoming marquee event at this stage. “The T20 World Cup is a long way away but he is definitely a tick for the World Cup at this stage,” he concluded.
