Earlier in October Mesut Ozil occupied almost every top headline of Arsenal. Whether it includes his exclusion from the 25 man squad or getting all the criticism from football pundits and Arsenal supporters. But there is one thing that Arsenal’s midfielder has to take responsibility for. Mesut Ozil is one of the very reasons the Gunners couldn’t make a move for Dani Olmo.
Mesut Ozil could be held responsible for Arsenal’s attempt in signing the attacking midfielder. Currently a player of RB Leipzig from Barcelona. As reported by The Mirror, Arsenal was tailing for a move for former Barcelona starlet Dani Olmo during the January transfer window. However, they couldn’t initiate the process due to a major reason.
Since Arsenal has signed Mesut Ozil on a £350,000-a-week wage bill whether he played for the club or not. The London giants were unable to sign another attacking midfielder. Because the Ex-German international was already taking up a big slice of Arsenal budget.
Arsenal couldn’t really get their hands on the Spanish midfielder. But it was RB Leipzig who signed the 22-year-old for £17m during the end of January ending all further transfer speculations. The German club tied the Midfielder with a four-year contract and on February 1st he made his first appearance for RB Leipzig in a 2-2 draw.
It is evident what Arsenal has lost after the Germans faced a terrible defeat at the hands of Spanish footballers. Olmo hosted the Germans in Sevilla in order to acquire a place in the UEFA nations league semi-final.
Dani Olmo: RB Leipzig whirlwind signing
The £17m rated Spanish midfielder was able to hand over the heaviest defeats to Germans since 1930. Olmo played for Spain where they thrash away the former world champions with a 6-0 score. Ozil was one of the furious audience who could do nothing but witness the loss and later tweeted about the notable absence of Jerome Boateng from Joachim Low’s XI.
Even though it was just the eighth appearance of Dani Olmo for the Spanish national team. But it doesn’t seem any less than a complete experienced midfielder portraying his abilities all over the pitch during one of the best nights in Spain’s recent history.
The 22-year-old failed to make any assist for Spain. But he was seen playing Ozil’s role with complete perfection. Dani Olmo was seen drifting all over the pitch, spinning on a sixpence. Twisting and turning the Germans with his move. To sum up his performance it can be said he was a complete menace from beginning to end.
Olmo header was returned. However, it got rebounded and taken by the grateful Manchester City winger. Olmo flick was also one of the many things that carved apart the German’s backline leading to the fourth goal.
In other words, Olmo is another version of Ozil of the modern era. He has come up with all the defense-splitting abilities with additional speed and work rate.
Mesut Ozil is out of favor under Mikel Arteta during his prime years where he should be really playing the best football of his career. Arsenal’s wanted midfielder and January target gave a performance full of vision, guile, relentless energy, and endeavor.
