Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has asked the club to sign Manchester City defender Pablo Maffeo, who has really impressed the world-class star on his loan spell in Spain, as per reports from Don Balon.
The attacker is happy with the player’s performances thus far for La Liga side Girona this term, as the young defensive star is on loan away from the Etihad.
Due to this, the 29 year old Argentine international wants the Catalan giants to take him away from Manchester and add him to their squad. The Spanish U-21 international caught Messi’s attention when he was man-marking him, during a league game back in September last year.
This has urged the attacker to recommend the player to his coach, who still has a long way to go and can help them win titles in the days to come. Though Barca won that game 3-0, Messi failed to make a real impact in the game, influencing the win in a major way and the right back was the main reason for that.
The defender joined the Citizens from Espanyol back in 2015, though he returned home on loan to Girona in the previous campaign, after barely making any impact in England and looking for more regular football.
With 20 appearances for the club already in the current campaign, the player is growing from strength to strength and could be one for the future.
Maybe, Messi has already seen that he has what it takes to be a top player, something that the City management might not have noticed keenly. If a player like Messi asks the club to sign some player, it is but obvious that the club from Spain should go ahead and sign it, before it is too late and he ends up at some other club.
Manager Ernesto Valverde has been using midfielder Sergi Roberto at right-back at times, while Nelson Semedo is also amongst the club’s ranks at present.
However, the Barca main-man needs to decide which player can make that position his own and grow there for the long run, meaning that the spot could still be open for the taking.
