“I Feel Leaving Out Rishabh Pant In The World Cup Will Be The Best Thing,” Wasim Jaffer Makes A Bold Statement On Rishabh Pant

Young wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant did not play the first T20I for Team India against Australia in Mohali. The team management decided to play only Dinesh Karthik ahead of him in the first place.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup recently. The selection committee decided to go with both Pant and Dinesh Karthik for the marquee event.

Former India’s batting great Sunil Gavaskar said he would prefer to play both Pant and Dinesh Karthik for the main event, scheduled to be held in Australia.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Wasim Jaffer made a bold statement on Rishabh Pant. He said leaving out the southpaw in the World Cup will be the best thing.

Jaffer also came up with a proper explanation as to why leaving our Rishabh Pant for the World Cup tournament would be the best thing.

First of all, the youngster doesn’t boast a good record as far as the T20I format is concerned. He has played 58 T20Is for India, more than any other format in international cricket.

The young southpaw hasn’t even crossed 1000 runs in T20Is. He has aggregated just 934 runs at a dismal batting average of 23.9 including 3 fifties to his name.

For someone like Pant, these statistics don’t fit his resume. He has to improve quite a lot as far as the shortest format of the game is concerned.

“India needs to figure out whether Rishabh Pant plays or not. The Indian think tank has been thinking a lot about putting Rishabh Pant in. He has been brilliant and we have talked about it many times.

“In Test cricket and in the ODIs, he has played series-winning, game-changing knocks, but that has not happened in T20 internationals or even in T20s,” Wasim Jaffer was quoted as saying on ESPNCricinfo.

“India needs to figure out if they want to stick with Rishabh Pant in the top six or if they want to play Dinesh Karthik, who has done really well since the Indian Premier League.

“For me personally, Rishabh Pant does not fit in number 4 or 5. His best place is to open the batting, which I don’t think will happen. I feel leaving out Rishabh Pant in the World Cup will be the best thing,” Jaffer explained.
