ICC ODI Cricket: Geoff Allardice, the chief executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has stated that there won’t be a significant decrease in the quantity or percentage of ODIs in the upcoming FTP cycle.
Recently, many former cricket players have voiced their concerns about ODI matches becoming stale and have called for a change. The amount of ODI games played by top-ranked ICC teams has significantly decreased.
Furthermore, South Africa prioritized their domestic T20 league over their 50-over series against Australia next year. Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s red-ball team announced his retirement from ODI cricket. He put forth how he was unable to play in all three formats.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two prominent Indian players, also took a break from the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. Test cricket was revitalized once the World Test Championship (WTC) was introduced. And T20I cricket continues to draw more spectators and revenue. Moreover, ODI cricket requires a significant overhaul shortly as well.
ICC ODI Cricket: All Boards Focus Equally On Domestic & International Cricket
Shahid Afridi has praised former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri’s call to cut the length of each ODI innings by ten overs. Wasim Akram, a legendary cricketer from Pakistan, called 50-over cricket a “drag” and urged the ICC to scrap it.
Usman Khawaja, an Australian starting batsman, said that one-day international cricket was a dying format. However, Geoff Allardice said that nations must balance their home and international match schedules.
“Each of them has to manage that balance between domestic competitions, their international schedule, and the management of their players. Each of those boards is in a slightly different situation. So there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to that balancing issue,” stated Geoff Allardice.

ICC ODI Cricket: WI VS IND 3rd ODI Match Stops
