Chelsea Legend Frank Lampard believes Bakayoko needs to improve in order to cement his place in the starting eleven.
Chelsea cashed up a huge amount of money to bring the player from Monaco, but since his arrival at the club, Bakayoko has failed to live up to the expectations. Lampard believes he needs to offer a lot for £40 Million. Bakayoko has not made a huge impact in matches. Conte brought the player from Monaco in order to fill up the boots of Nemanja Matic, who left for Manchester United this summer.

Conte’s decision has been questioned by many on regular basis, with Lampard latest to question this decision. Lampard believes that Bakayoko faces a difficult task in cementing his place in the squad after Danny Drinkwater returned to fitness after being sidelined for 7 weeks due to a Calf injury.
Lampard said: “Tiemoue Bakayoko will need to raise his game at Chelsea to keep Danny Drinkwater from taking his place on a more regular basis. Both players joined in the summer and as yet, Bakayoko has not made enough of an impact in games.
“When you sign for Chelsea, you have to understand that you’re never the only player for a position. There is always someone else knocking on the door.
“The pressure should be coming from within. Chelsea paid Monaco £40m for him – and that brings expectation. He has to live up to that on the pitch.
“Bakayoko has to work hard in training and also when he plays. He has quality, we saw that in the Champions League last season. He was fantastic in Monaco’s run to the semi-finals and that’s what everyone is waiting for at Chelsea.”

Lampard believes that the problem with France international is that he is yet to nail down a set position in the squad. He believes that it is difficult to conclude that whether he is a defensive midfielder or a creative midfielder. He further added: “At the moment I am looking at Bakayoko and I’m not sure what kind of midfield player he is. I initially thought he could be compared to Yaya Toure, however, I don’t see that so much now. The way Chelsea play means he has to be disciplined in midfield, as Conte wants the wing-backs high up the pitch.
“Then the attacking players are given a bit of freedom, so he is one of two defensive midfielders given real responsibility to win tackles, keep things tight and move the ball quickly. N’Golo Kante does it out of instinct, but Bakayoko is finding it harder.”
I personally agree with what Lampard had to say about the player. He needs to offer a lot more for £40 Million than what he is offering now. He is yet to leave up to the expectations of the fans. He is a strong player with a good athletic build up, but still gets knocked off the ball, quite easily. Bakayoko needs to work hard in order to cement his place in the squad. He has got some real quality, which we all witnessed last year during the Champions League. He needs to raise his standards or there is always someone knocking on the door for an opportunity.
