Arsenal have lost six out of their last nine games. Arsenal have now fallen to the sixth position of the Premier League. Manchester United, who have consistently risen in terms of their performances are now at fifth. Owing to the horrible recent run of games, the fans have turned their backs on the manager and started protesting. A section of the fans wants Wenger to be shown the exit door.

Arsene’s decade:

Arsenal suddenly went from winning it all to winning just a single trophy in a decade. The team once comprised of legendary squad players like Henry and Bergkamp. The amount of talent in the Arsenal side is still incredible yet they are failing to find the rhythm to dominate. The team has often looked clueless at times, giving up leads during the course of the game.

The relationship between the fans and the manager has not been conventional in this past decade. Despite not winning the trophies, Wenger still got his teams to maintain a level of decent football. They have entertained, often playing games resembling that of Barcelona. Their passing and attacking approach is a visual treat, even in Europe. Though, Wenger has also failed to perform on the European stage in this last decade. The fans are left with a dilemma after every passing season. Wenger does get them to the Champions League, yet he never gets them the League.

Fan protests:

The fan protests have intensified in the past few weeks, especially after their humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich. The London-based club lost 10-2 on aggregate, their worst ever till date. The protests reached their peak this past week when in the match against West Brom, a plane carried a Wenger out the message over the stadium. Though, as a relief for Wenger, another plane emerged which carried a pro-Wenger slogan. Wenger opened up about the incident, as he admitted that the fans had a right to be angry.

Wenger talked about how he changed the state of the club compared to how it was when he had come to the club. He said, “I’m quite proud of what I have done. ” He had the following to say about his journey through the club,

“But I have guided to club through very difficult periods, with very limited resources and I’ve always managed to get the best out of the team and that’s what I will do as long as I’m at Arsenal football club.”

Wenger also mentioned that the international friendlies might hinder the rehabilitation process. Though, it needs to be seen where the Gunners end up this season.
