Chelsea suffered yet another blow to their potential move for the Premier League. A 1-1 draw against Aston Villa means the blues slip further below in the points table. A lot of work needs to be done before the start of the new year.
Frank Lampard presented a very different side from the one which player at the Emirates against Arsenal. The defensive line possessed a brand new look altogether. Only Eduoard Mendy and Ben Chilwell were the constants.
Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen returned to the backline for Chelsea. Club captain Cesar Azpillecueta too made a return in place of now the regular right-back for Chelsea, Reece James.
The ever dependent Olivier Giroud scored yet again in a crucial match for Chelsea. A lovely worked goal which at first saw some neat footwork from Giroud to find the American winger Christian Pulisic.
Pulisic then did well to draw in the defender and pass it to the overlapping left-back Ben Chilwell who delivered a peach of a first-time delivery to Olivier Giroud who nodded it past Emiliano Martinez.
However, Chelsea’s joy was short-lived in the second half as El Ghazi scored the equalizer for Villa. But fans may argue as Andreas Christensen lay on the floor in the build-up of the game. No foul given by the referee and the goal stood well in Aston Villa’s favor.
