IND vs SA: Sanjay Bangar feels Rishabh Pant should start opening to improve his form

IND vs SA: India were hosting South Africa in the fifth match on Sunday, June 19. Moreover, the game was taking place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, India.

India were coming into this fixture after winning against South Africa in the fourth T20 match on Friday. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma went on to win the toss and he decided to have a bowl first.

The men in blue were off to a lazy start with the quick wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad. A similar trend continued in terms of the middle order. But Dinesh Karthik helped India get to 169 runs.

South Africa had a horrible start and the trend continued till the end. The Proteas were technically all out for 87 runs as Temba Bavuma did not come to bat again. India won the match by 82 runs.

Dinesh Karthik went on to win the man of the match award in the fourth T20 match. Moreover, he scored 55 runs from 27 balls with a strike rate of 203.70.

The fifth match unfortunately was abandoned after a play of just around three overs. It was due to the constant rainfall in Bengaluru during the match time.

Sanjay Bangar went on to suggest that Rishabh Pant should open to bring back his form. The Indian cricketer is struggling to find form and the IND vs SA t20 series has been a flop for him.

He said, “I’ve been thinking about it for 3 years. If you look at Sachin Tendulkar’s career, he hit his first century in his 75th or 76th innings in white-ball cricket when he was asked to open the innings against New Zealand after batting largely in the middle-order.

Right now, the Indian team is looking at a left-right combination. Yes, Ishan Kishan is doing well right now.

But if the Indian team is eyeing a left-right opening pair for the long term, Rishabh Pant can do the same job that someone like Adam Gilchrist did for Australia.”
