Rahul was the second leading run-scorer of the IPL behind Jos Buttler. He also led the Lucknow team from the front in batting. His team failed to win the title, but his performance helped Rahul earn captaincy of India for the series against South Africa.

IND VS SA: Rahul’s performance as India’s captain

KL Rahul will be captaining India’s T20 squad for the first time. He has experience of captaining a T20 side through IPL and that can be helpful for him in captaining the squad.
Rahul was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian T20 Team. When Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain and Vice-Captain Rohit Sharma was appointed as the captain of the squad. He was appointed as India’s ODI vice captain after Change in Captaincy.
KL Rahul became Vice-Captain of Indian Test Team. It was when Rohit Sharma got ruled out India’s tour of South Africa due to injury. He was later appointed India’s ODI captain for the series due to same reason.
Rahul was named India’s captain for second Test against South Africa and India’s ODI Captain for ODI series against South Africa. However, India lost all the three ODI matches against South Africa under his Captaincy. It will be great opportunity for him to level the scores.
Rahul’s IPL journey as captain

KL Rahul was appointed as the captain of the newly introduced franchise of Lucknow Super Giants. Lucknow had a pretty decent start of IPL and were at third position in the points table with 9 wins from 14 matches.
Lucknow became the second team to qualify for the playoffs and faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator. However, RCB won the match.
Rahul was the leading scorer for Lucknow Super Giants and second-leading scorer in the tournament. He scored 616 runs in his 15 matches.
KL Rahul has a very good opportunity to prove his worth as India’s captain and lead the side to series victory.
