IND vs WI: India and West Indies played the second match of their ongoing 3-match T20 series yesterday at the Eden Gardens and the hosts ended up winning the match pretty convincingly. With this, they have won the T20 series 2-0 and will be looking forward to winning the third match as well.
They had already won the ODI series at the Ahmedabad stadium a month ago against the same rivals and if they win the third T20I tomorrow, they will have completely whitewashed the visitors. This will obviously give team India a much-needed boost after their disappointing performance in the South Africa series.
West Indies won the toss last night and opted to bowl first. It never looked like a problem for the hosts as they had things in hand right from the beginning.
After Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan failed to perform, former Indian captain Virat Kohli took charge of the innings. He scored a phenomenal 52 runs off 41 deliveries. It was his first proper knock of the ongoing tour.
He was supported well by Rishabh Pant who scored 52 off just 28 balls. Venkatesh Iyer’s cameo of 33 off 18 was important as well. India thus was able to put up a total of 186 runs.
Coming on to chase, West Indies openers Brandon King and Kyle Mayers departed early. But the partnership between Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell possessed some real threat to Team India. Their partnership was of over a hundred runs. Nicholas Pooran scored 62 off 41 while Rovman Powell scored 68 off 36.
IND vs WI: Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulled off a scintillating 19th over as well
However, this big partnership had a lot to blame on Bhuvneshwar Kumar. When Rovman Powell was batting on 38 off 22, he played a shot straight up. The bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar reacted late and missed the catch despite coming under the ball on time.
It was an important wicket and India might have lost the match there. Fortunately, Bhuvneshwar Kumar made up for his mistake in the death over and India won the match.
He picked up the wicket of Nicholas Pooran and was simply brilliant in the death overs. His experience worked out fantastically for the hosts. Bhuvi’s experience won the match for Team India last night.
West Indies scored 178 runs in 20 overs and lost the match by just 8 runs. It was a thrilling T20 match overall. The third and final match of the T20 series will be played tomorrow, i.e, on 20th February at the Eden Gardens.
