Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has passed out a statement on India’s crushing defeat. Jasprit Bumrah did not get a single wicket in this series and also went for runs. For the first time in his career, Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in a bilateral series. Meanwhile, Bumrah’s form in this series disappointed Shoaib Akhtar. He said on his YouTube channel.

“Everyone seemed to think that India will win comfortably. Apart from Chahal and Bumrah, there are no wickettakers. However, I do not like the way Bumrah went for runs. He did not look to be bowling in any sort of rhythm. Did he not come back soon? He is the best bowler in the world.”

Meanwhile, Akhtar was in massive praise for Martin Guptil

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill batted well in the series. He gave the team a solid start in all three matches. In the final match, he scored 66 runs off 46 balls. Akhtar praised his batting. He said

“Martin Guptill had not done anything special since the World Cup. He batted well in this ODI series. Guptil also hit sixes in the World Cup against me. He is consistently playing good shots. Guptil plays shots all round the ground- in front of the wicket and also he pulls well.”

Indian team openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were not a part of these ODI series. So, Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings in their absence. The new openers could not play any big innings in all three matches. On this regard Akhtar said

“Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were not there and India played with Shaw and Mayank as openers. Alternately, KL Rahul could have been tried as an opener. Shaw and Mayank are good but not experienced enough. Rohit Sharma is a big name in world cricket. No one can replace him so easily. He has lots of experience and when knows how to plan his innings.”
