Official figures released by Inter Milan have revealed the fee they paid to secure the services Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window, just one season after his high-profile return to Chelsea.
Chelsea signed the Belgian attacker from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021 for a club record fee. However, things did not go as planned for Lukaku at Chelsea where he endured a below par 21/22 campaign.
Lukaku featured in 44 games across all competitions for Chelsea in the 2021/22 season. The Belgian scored 15 goals for the Blues in the first season of his second stint at the club. In the Premier League, Lukaku made 26 appearances and scored eight goals.
Inter Milan re-signed Lukaku in the summer transfer window, on a loan from Chelsea. According to official figures released by Inter Milan at an annual shareholder meeting, the Italian club reached an agreement with Chelsea worth €7.8million to sign Lukaku on loan [via The Mirror].
Since sealing his return to Inter Milan, Lukaku has featured in just four games for the Italian outfit. Lukaku has 2 goals for Inter so far this season – one each in the Serie A and Champions League.
Lukaku scored for Inter in his first Serie A match since returning to the club. But he sustained a hamstring injury towards the end of August and was out of action for close to two months.
He returned to action when Inter faced Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League earlier this week. Inter secured a 4-0 win in that game, and Lukaku scored their fourth goal of the match.
Meanwhile, Inter have had a below-par start to the 22/23 season. They sit seventh in the Serie A points table with 21 points from 11 matches. Inter have seven wins and four defeats in the Italian top flight so far this season.
Inter are eight points behind table-toppers Napoli in Serie A. They are also three points short of Atalanta, who occupy the fourth place in the table.
Meanwhile, Inter managed to qualify for the Champions League round of 16 from a rather difficult group. The Italian side are in Group C, alongside Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Viktoria Plzen.
Inter have sealed their place in the Champions League round-of-16 with 10 points from five matches. They sit second in the group, behind Bayern Munich.
