IPL 2022 Auction: It seems that hosting the upcoming mega auction won’t be that easy. Earlier, it was reported that the auction will begin in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13 respectively.

Meanwhile, in the latest development, there has been a surge in coronavirus cases in the electronic city of India. The city has reported more than 23,000 cases on Sunday.

So there is massive confusion as to whether the auction will be held in Bengaluru or not. In fact, India’s cricket body, BCCI is yet to finalize the venue for the mega auction.

The auction might be hosted out of Bengaluru or perhaps the board might as well wait for the situation to change, nothing has been confirmed yet. Meanwhile, one of the franchise officials reacted to the ongoing saga.

He added that nobody is certain where the auction will kick off, especially at this stage. For the unversed, ten days ago, the BCCI notified the franchises that the venue for the mega auction will be finalized soon.

However, they are yet to get any further information or development regarding the same. As of now, the franchise officials are patiently waiting to hear a word from BCCI.

“At this stage, we don’t know where the auction is happening. We are confused about this. 10 days back we were told that the auction venue will be finalized soon but we haven’t heard from them,” said one of the franchise officials.

So it is entirely in the hands of the BCCI to decide and make a further step on this. BCCI has considered Mumbai on the standby list for the upcoming auction. “We are waiting to hear from BCCI so that we can arrange for the logistics for our attendees”, said one of the franchise officials.

The BCCI official, on the condition of anonymity, said they will have to wait and keep a tab on the situation and proceed accordingly as some things are out of their hands. “Some things are out of our hands and we must wait.”

Bookings and stuff will not be an issue if we have an idea about the restrictions. We are closely monitoring the situation and are in talks with the state associations. If we need to move the venue, it can be done on short notice,” a top BCCI official told InsideSport.

On the other hand, BCCI said it will do its best to host the IPL 2022 in India. The cash-rich IPL is expected to kick-off at the end of March which will continue till May. However, South Africa will be considered as a standby if the virus forces the Indian board to shift the tournament out of the country.
