IPL 2022: The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League has finally come to an end. The two-month-long season which started on March 26 came to an end on May 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
It was a fascinating season with two new teams entering the fold in the Indian Premier League. There was so much hype around the expansion of the IPL with the inclusion of two new teams.
The two new teams, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans did not disappoint us as they went on to put on an excellent performance. Lucknow Super Giants reached the playoffs while Gujarat Titans lifted the IPL trophy.
Gujarat Titans went on to win the IPL trophy in their maiden IPL season. This is a luxury for teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals who have been here since the start but could not even lift the trophy for a single time.
While major teams like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians played their worst season in the IPL. Mumbai Indians went on to finish at the last position with eight points in 14 games while Chennai Super Kings finished at the second last position.
They too could hold on to only eight points in 14 games. For other teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, this was yet another forgettable season like the usual times.
IPL 2022: Five players who hold the potential to become the next CSK captain
The Australian international went unsold in the mega auction. However, he is turning the tables for Australia in T20 cricket after changing his approach to the game. Moreover, his leadership skills could attract CSK’s interest.
Eoin Morgan has been a forgotten name after a disappointing IPL season in 2021. But the England international is working hard on his batting to make a comeback. Chennai Super Kings might look up to him if nothing works.
In all reality, Chennai Super Kings need not look outside for the captaincy role. They have a young candidate in Ruturaj Gaikwad. He might be given the command and be trained under MS Dhoni for a full season.
Ben Stokes will be a hot commodity in the mini-auction next season. Chennai Super Kings are in requirement of an all-rounder. Ben Stokes comes with top skills. He can also lead Chennai Super Kings which will be a bonus.
If all the above plans tend to fail for Chennai Super Kings then Manish Pandey could be a temporary fix. The Indian international is currently a surplus requirement at LSG and he could be tempted to join another franchise. He suits the playing style of Chennai Super Kings.
