IPL 2022: The Indian Premier League is the most-watched and the best T20 tournament in the world. The cash-rich IPL has attracted several top players. This is precisely the reason why it is the most successful league as well.

All the existing eight teams have already submitted the players’ retention list on Tuesday. The current eight teams can retain a maximum of three Indians and a minimum of 1 foreign player.

In another case, teams can retain a minimum of two Indians and a maximum of two foreign players. Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals retained four players each.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore retained three players apiece. Punjab Kings are the only team to retain only two players ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.

Meanwhile, two new franchises will join the tournament. They will look to put up a strong fight in the competition. While the 15th season is a few months away from getting underway, the IPL fever is still on.

Now the extravaganza shifts to new franchises – Ahmedabad and Lucknow. They have been allotted time from December 1 to December 25. These two new teams can pick a maximum of three players (2 Indians, 1 overseas) from a draft involving all the released players.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) set a price tag for the current eight teams to retain their players. Likewise, as per Indian Express, the two new teams will have a certain amount to sign the three players.

The report says that the two new teams will have only INR 33 crore to spend from their INR 90 crore purse to sign the initial three players. The split-up for the same is INR 15 crore, INR 11 crore and INR 7 crore for the first, second and third player respectively.

“If a player is negotiating with a new franchise, he can do it according to the purse allocation. If someone is in line to become the captain of a new team, then obviously he will be joining for Rs 15 crore,” said a CEO of one of the franchises.

One thing is for sure. The two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad will face the heat and pressure when they approach the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League.

There were reports that KL Rahul will lead the Lucknow-based franchise in the next season. It seems that KL Rahul made his decision quite clear as he decided to go into the auction. PBKS team management said they wanted to retain the services of Rahul for IPL 2022.

“We wanted to retain KL Rahul, but he decided to go into the auction. We respect that, we honour that decision. It’s the player’s prerogative,” PBKS coach Anil Kumble said.
