IPL 2022: Brendon McCullum’s affiliation with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has finally come to an end. Moreover, KKR’s IPL 2022 campaign also ended with their defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
The former New Zealand captain is all set to work as England’s new Test coach. Nevertheless, he will be unable to serve KKR due to his appointment. The Shreyas Iyer-led team couldn’t give its head coach a proper send-off. They lost by two runs to Lucknow in their final league encounter.
The game came down to the wire, with the Knight Riders performing admirably while chasing 211 runs. However, their efforts were ultimately futile, as they narrowly missed out on a playoff berth. Rinku Singh wowed everyone with his outstanding performance against LSG in the match on Wednesday. By hitting 40 runs in 15 balls, the left-hander turned the game into a close contest. However, he fell short and couldn’t manage to get his team past the finish line.
Following the game, McCullum held his final press conference as KKR head coach. Furthermore, he frankly answered various questions during the interaction.

IPL 2022: KKR will not make the playoffs this year, but McCullum praised his squad for playing good cricket. He claimed to have had a terrific time over the last few years. According to him, the team has played fantastic cricket this year. He further claimed that he will continue to monitor the team’s situation.
“I know they’re in really good hands with the support staff and Shreyas as captain, so yeah, watch out for KKR next year,” McCullum stated in the post-match conference.
Speaking of McCullum, he scored 158 runs in his IPL debut. In addition, he was an instrumental player for KKR, and his records speak for themselves. He praised the marquee T20 competition for offering a huge platform for youngsters.
“I have loved it (his time in the IPL). It’s been three years now and all three years have been in bubbles,” McCullum said of the T20 league. He further thanked all the parties involved for hosting the event amidst the pandemic. In his own words, the IPL gave the masses something to cheer about to during tough times.
The former New Zealand captain heaped further praise on the league, calling it a beautiful competition. Moreover, he hailed the IPL as the best league in the world.
McCullum believes that the Premier T20 League offers a platform to some incredibly huge talents. He expressed his gratitude for being able to be a part of it as a coach. He also stated his contempt for inspiring youngsters to express themselves.
