As a result, they finished at the bottom of the IPL 2021 points table. The first half of the IPL started in India before it got postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The BCCI shifted the other half to the Gulf nation.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad failed miserably in the first and second half of the IPL. The 2016 IPL champions managed to win just three games but lost a string of nine games in the competition.
The cricket fraternity saw a change of captaincy and axing of David Warner from the set-up. Even after Kane Williamson took charge, things didn’t go as per the plan. SRH were languishing only at the bottom.
However, SRH will only like to forget the past and focus on the present. They were one of the franchises that submitted the players’ retention list on Tuesday. SRH retained three players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Those three players are none other than Kane Williamson (INR 14 crore), Abdul Samad (INR 4 crore), Umran Malik (INR 4 crore). The orange army have a total of INR 68 crores left in their kitty.
IPL 2022: Trevor Bayliss set to Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Trevor Bayliss is set to step down from the current position only to join another franchise. The former England coach joined SRH immediately after the 2019 World Cup win with England.
However, he couldn’t repeat the trick with Sunrisers in the IPL. The orange army’s performance was not up to the mark. It was also quite shocking to see that coming from a team that was coached by Bayliss.
Trevor Bayliss is considered one of the most successful coaches in the world. The veteran has guided England to the Ashes and World Cup victories. Earlier, the 58-year-old led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL trophies – in 2012 and 2014.
Nonetheless, he failed to bring the best out of the players at SRH. It seems that he was approached by Cricket Australia. As per the reports, the experienced coach is on Australia’s radar.
Talking about the IPL 2022, two new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad will feature in the competition. As per the reports, Bayliss will look to join the Lucknow-based franchise for the 15th edition.
The report from Cricbuzz says, “He has moved on and we’ll announce the new coach soon”. However, there has been no official confirmation from Trevor Bayliss or the Sunrisers Hyderabad management on this matter yet.
