IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings ran through a terrible campaign in the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League. There was no positive for the four-time IPL champions.
In fact, they entered the season as the favourites to defend the title. However, that was not to be. The cricket fraternity saw unexpected changes at the CSK camp.
MS Dhoni handed over the captaincy duties to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Under his captaincy, CSK were nowhere close to posing a threat to the opposition.
The four-time IPL champions managed to win only 2 games but lost six games under Jadeja’s leadership. The all-rounder made up his mind to hand over the captaincy to MS Dhoni but it was too late.
Chennai Super Kings didn’t recover even after MS Dhoni once again took charge as captain. They failed to quality for the playoffs. In the end, CSK finished at the ninth place in the points table.
It was a forgettable season for CSK and for the fans. However, the yellow army will be looking forward to putting up a great fight in the sixteenth edition of the IPL.
Why Ravindra Jadeja was removed from CSK in IPL 2022?
Ravindra Jadeja failed to deliver the goods as a captain and as an all-rounder. Yes, his individual stats weren’t that impressive and the team ran short of tricks and ideas and had a catastrophic failure.
The all-rounder could score only 116 runs in 10 innings at a terrible batting average of 19.33. He accounted for five dismissals with the ball at an economy rate of 7.52.
Later on, Jadeja ruled out in the business end of the tournament after suffering a rib injury during their game against Delhi Capitals on May 8.
As per media reports, CSK captain Dhoni wanted to protect Jadeja from losing his spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad despite a dip in form. As a result, MS Dhoni returned back as the captain.
“CSK insiders still insist Dhoni sincerely believed that Jadeja’s place in the Indian T20 team could come under scanner if he didn’t perform in the IPL and that’s why he was relieved of his captaincy,” a Times of India report read.
Jadeja has been with CSK since 2012. He has been one of the productive assets and one of the core players of the team for a long time now. Jadeja is the third-most highest wicket-taker for CSK with 114 wickets after DJ Bravo (154) and Ravi Ashwin (120).
