According to the latest reports, Sunrisers Hyderabad could release Kane Williamson ahead of IPL 2023 mini-auction.
Williamson marked his presence as one of the three retained players by the franchise in the IPL 2022, along with Umran Malik and Abdul Samad. Also, the franchises let go of players like David Warner and Rashid Khan to avail the services of the New Zealand great.
However, Williamson could not live up to the expectations, as he garnered only 216 runs in 13 innings. Furthermore, the 32-year-old scored runs at a paltry average of 19.62 and a strike rate of 93.51.
The elegant batter led the team but could taste success in only six out of 14 matches, which resulted in the Sunrisers finishing in the eighth position in the table.

The elbow injury has also been a key factor in Williamson’s career in the past year. He featured for the Kiwi team in limited matches as well.

All the franchises have to provide the list of retained/released players by November 15 to the BCCI. The mini-auction will take place on December 23 in Kochi.
Due to SRH’s average performance in the 2022 season, the franchise appointed Brian Lara as the team’s head coach for the forthcoming season. Lara worked as a strategic advisor and batting coach to SRH in the last edition and will replace Tom Moody.
Moreover, the departure of Williamson will leave the think-tank to choose the leader for the team. The current team has the experience of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram, who can lead the team in IPL 2023.
It will be interesting to witness the team management’s picks in the mini-auction. The team certainly needs a good finisher and a quality all-rounder in their ranks.
