ISL 2022-23: Phurba Lachenpa of Mumbai City FC Highlights the Goals for the Next Season

On October 23, 2020, Phurba Lachenpa joined Mumbai City FC, a team competing in the Indian Super League (ISL). Since then, the former Shillong Lajong keeper has played eight times for the Islanders. Real Kashmir FC’s first-choice goalie was always Lachenpa. The ISL, however, operated differently.

While the Sikkim-born child had first written anything down, Amrinder Singh, the team’s captain at the time, was a rival. The next year, Singh moved to ATK Mohun Bagan, although Lachenpa’s position at the top wasn’t yet certain. Mohammad Nawaz was his opponent, but over time, Lachenpa showed himself and won the position.

In the Durand Cup 2022, which just ended, he proved that he was a good candidate for the job. The ISL is now in sight. After losing to Bengaluru FC, the tournament’s overall winner, Phurba Lachenpa and his teammates at Mumbai City FC are looking forward to the 2019 ISL.

Lachenpa discussed how he rose to the position of the club's top custodian. "This is one of India's best clubs. No matter how many goalkeepers there are, each one is skilled at what they do. In the end, only one can be selected depending on the coach's strategy after we have given each training session our all.
To earn our spot, we must train hard every day. Goalkeepers may get better in this club since everyone pushes one another to be their best. My coworkers and coaches, who helped me grow as a player and kept me grounded, are responsible for where I am now.

Mumbai City FC’s Durand Cup campaign came to a dismal finish despite the team’s dominance of the competition. The goalie for Mumbai City FC said the following about his time in the prestigious, long-running competition:

We had a lot of opportunities to play together before the ISL, so it was a very positive experience. We need to strengthen our bonds with one another and get fitter; both of these things will be helpful in the ISL.

He talks to each player one-on-one every day in an effort to persuade them to support his views. Additionally, he works to improve each of us so that we can contribute to the team, and I believe it is reflected in the way we play.
