Ivan Rakitic to be finally lured away by a club?

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic’s future at the Camp Nou has been uncertain ever since the Catalan Giants announced the signing of Dutch sensation Frenkie De Jong from Ajax in the upcoming summer. Rakitic, who joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2014, has won three La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys and the Champions League during his tenure at the club. The Blaugrana however are willing to let the 2018 World Cup finalist leave with De Jong arriving and Arthur having already established himself as a key player in the midfield.

Manchester United have been one of few clubs who have been in pursuit of the Barcelona midfielder despite there being reports of the Croatian linked with a potential move to Seria A side Inter Milan. Inter are planning to make significant changes in the summer as they look to pose a serious threat to Juventus’ Seria A title dominance. The addition of the World Cup finalist could be seen as real statement of intent from the Seria A sleeping giants. Despite reports claiming that the Croatian international has already agreed terms with the Italian club, Manchester United are not ready to give up just as yet.

According to reports by ‘The Sun’, Manchester United Boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer is quite desperate to add an experienced midfielder to his squad, especially with the departure of Ander Herrera. Solskjaer may also consider signing the Croatian midfielder given the fact that Paul Pogba could also be leaving the Red Devils by the end of the summer. United however are fearful of the fact that Inter may have already secured the services of the 31 year old Croatian for a reported fee of £43M.

The 31 year old’s current deal however runs till 2021 and Rakitic himself has denied the possibility of him leaving the club any sooner. “Let’s see if you will stop inventing things, I’d really appreciate that. I’m only focused on FC Barcelona and want to be here for many years to come. We want to win the double. Just so you know my agent is called Arturo Canales.” The rumours however grow stronger with each passing day and it remains to be seen whether the Blaugrana consider selling him to raise funds for new targets.
