The Day 1 of the third Test between India and Australia started at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Navdeep Saini and Siraj made their debut for team India. For Australia, David Warner made a return as well. Will Pucovski was presented with the baggy green cap. He was out for several months due to mental health issues. The 3rd test will be very crucial for the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
Mohammed Siraj took an early wicket of David Warner sending him back to the dressing room for 5runs only. Indian bowlers started well but lost the rhythm after that. Will Pucovski Marnus Labuschagne stood together as both batsmen scored half-centuries and a brilliant century of partnership.
Pucovski got lucky twice as Rishabh Pant dropped his catches. But Navdeep Saini dismissed Pucovski at 34.2 overs just after he completed his half-century. Pucovski scored 62 runs off 110 balls for Aussies.
Steve Smith came out to bat after Pucovski wicket. Pucovski and Labuschagne gave a good start to Aussies after the early wicket of Warner. Steve Smith is known for his unorthodox style. Smith is full of animations and cheeks shots while playing.
Bumrah Imitation of Smith
Jasprit Bumrah, Indian pacer, imitated Australia’s batsman Steve Smith. After bowling to Smith in 3rd match, Bumrah couldn’t control his emotions and imitated Smith. Bumrah while returning to his run-up shook his shoulder in a funny fashion.

In the Amazon Prime documentary- “Left pad, right pad, box, tap in the middle, two behind my foot look up..” Steve Smith’s back-foot gets planted in the line of off-stump. Leaving deliveries, playing them, and wording something that almost sounded gibberish, and that has been Steve Smith.
Ishant Sharma Say on his incident vs Smith
This incident would remind people of the 2017 Australia’s tour of India. When Ishant Sharma made a funny face to tease Smith.
“It was quite a close game, that one. People tend to do things when swayed by emotions. Often, you do anything to upset the batsman, with either remarks or actions. Whatever I could do to upset him, I would just do that. Smith also tends to upset the bowlers a lot. We knew back then and even now if we dismissed him, we could go on to win the match,” Ishant said, recalling the incident on ‘Open Nets with Mayank’ on BCCI.tv.
“At that point in time, I was just trying to upset him. I was thinking and finding new ways about how to do it. I was just trying to get him out of his comfort zone and force him to make a mistake. Was trying to make him uncomfortable.”
Steve Smith after Day1 at SCG
” I am good with what we have. It was nice to spend a bit of time out there. Nice to stitch in a partnership with Marnus. I wanted to put Ashwin under a little bit of pressure which I have not done this series.”
“I was just trying to hold the grip a bit tighter. I have been struggling, so I was getting into good positions today. Was good to get a couple of boundaries early. Marnus played well, hopefully, we go along well tomorrow.”
Australia Right On Top As Day 1 Of The Sydney Test Comes To A Close
Australia team was on top of the game throughout the day apart from the early wicket of David Warner. Rishabh Pant gave two life-lines to Pucovski. Smith and Labuschagne had also stitched a beautiful partnership after Pucovski’s dismissal and the two batsmen kept ticking off the scoreboard at a quick rate. Navdeep Saini, the debutant has leaked a lot of runs on his debut and they would like to counter-attack the Australian batsmen when they come out to bowl on the second day.
