Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hails Chelsea’s defensive mentality under new manager Antonio Conte.
Jose Mourinho says it will be difficult for Manchester United to match up with Chelsea this season. The former Chelsea manager admits that Antonio Conte’s side have a strong defensive mentality which has helped them this season.
During an interview with Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho said that it is very difficult to catch Chelsea this season. Mourinho also said it’s highly unlikely for Chelsea to drop points as their defensive approach helps to defend their lead. The Blues are on a record 11 match winning streak under Antonio Conte.
Mourinho told Sky Sports “You have to be honest and say that is very difficult,” when asked about United winning title this season. “It’s not just the difference in points, it’s also the Chelsea philosophy of playing.”
“They score one goal and they win, they defend a lot, they defend well. They are winning and, in the last 20 minutes, they bring defenders in.”
Antonio Conte’s 11 match winning streak at Chelsea is also a new record as he has overtaken Jose Mourinho’s previous record at Stamford Bridge. They are currently 6 points clear at the top and will also stay in first place on New Year day.
Chelsea are at the top of the table with 43 points after 17 Premier League matches. Whereas Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are still struggling to get into the top four this season. The Red Devils are in 6th position in the Premier League table with just 30 points.
Mourinho also admits his former team are concerned about winning matches only. In addition to that, he doesn’t expect Chelsea to drop too many points this season.
“They don’t care what people say, what people think. They just want to win. And, because of that, I don’t see them losing many points,” said Mourinho.
Manchester United are on a 4 match winning streak in all competitions. It seems like everything is working for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United in the past couple of weeks.
During this festive period, both Chelsea and Manchester United will play their matches at their home stadiums respecitively. On Boxing Day, Chelsea will face Bournemouth, and Manchester United will face Sunderland.
Mourinho also said “2017 will be better than 2016. I think we are really together. There is a sense of unity between us and the fans. I’m loving a lot that feeling.”
