Former Southampton manager Gordon Strachan has claimed that Jose Mourinho targets a specific type of player for his Manchester United side.
Jose Mourinho has built a team which imposes physicality and relies on Strength, Height and Power and when comes to signing he always likes players which have these attributes. Manchester United are currently struggling in the Premier League and have conceded 26 goals in their first 16 matches and are in sixth place. The Red Devils are in need of reinforcement and must be actively participating in the upcoming Winter Transfer window.
And Strachan feels United have a ‘clear idea’ of their transfer criteria. “I think they do have a clear idea,” he told Sky Sports’ The Debate. On the contrary Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham have signed players who can play with a lot of energy and can take players one on one easily. But slowly every team is aware of their tactics and are doing well against them.
Jose Mourinho has been constantly criticized about the brand of football he has injected into United and how the Red Devils have changed from their usual playing style. Many sports journalist believe that it’s time Manchester United take a step and make necessary changes in order to keep their legacy intact. It’s about backing Mourinho or sacking him before the upcoming transfer window in order to make a statement to all the fans around the globe.
Author’s take:
Lastly, Strachan feels that United have a clear idea of their transfer criteria and will be doing well in the upcoming transfer market. He feels that if the Portuguese tactician is backed in the transfer window United have a chance to turn around things in the current campaign and make an impact after the winter break.
