Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t plan to add to his team’s attacking talent during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have a rather misfiring attacking line despite having the likes of Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Sanchez, and even Marcus Rashford. However, despite that manager Jose Mourinho has gone on record saying that the club won’t be adding to their attacking talents during the summer.
The former Chelsea boss beat out the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, and even Real Madrid to bring in the disgruntled Chilean from Arsenal, after agreeing to a swap deal for former Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The 28-year-old former Barcelona star has played a big part in their last two games and even opened his account for the Red Devils against Huddersfield.
Despite the win over Huddersfield, the Red Devils’ still see themselves 13 points behind leaders Manchester City who has only lost one game so far. That being said, the title does look far from reach and even Jose Mourinho has already conceded the title. “City are doing so well. Not letting the others come close. With the number of points, we have in normal conditions that would leave the fight open. It is open for second, third, fourth but practically closed for the first.”
While Manchester United are in the race for Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann and even Ajax star Justin Kluivert, it looks like the club won’t be bringing in any new attacking talents. Especially now with the Red Devils bringing in Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, and Mourinho even went on to say that “The objective is that now we have more number nines,” said Mourinho, when asked about the summer transfer window. We have Alexis, we have (Romelu) Lukaku, we have (Anthony) Martial, we have (Marcus) Rashford. Rashford can play on the left and the right, Alexis is exactly the same.
But I don’t want attacking players, so don’t speak about attacking players that are coming here, because nobody is coming here. We have (Juan) Mata, Lukaku, Rashford, Martial, Alexis. I don’t want attacking players so, speculation in the summer, you have to go to other areas. Attacking players, I am really happy.
The Old Trafford side does have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and thus don’t need to bring in more attacking players. However, what they do need is a new attacking midfielder and maybe another central midfielder to back up Paul Pogba. But when it comes to attacking talents, Mourinho is right.
